PROCEDURES

LASIK

Using the precise beam of the excimer laser, the doctors at Florida Eye Custom Vision carefully reshape the curvature of the cornea so that it focuses light correctly on the retina. This reshaping takes place on a microscopic level, involving the removal of layers of cells thinner than a human hair. The excimer is a cold laser which breaks the molecular bonds between the cells allowing them to float away in a process called ablation. The cool ultraviolet beam of light produced by the excimer laser is so precise that each pulse removes only 39 millionths of an inch of tissue!

Photo Refractive Keratectomy

Photo Refractive Keratectomy

PRK (Photo Refractive Keratectomy) is a surface treatment. Rather than create a flap, the epithelial cells, which cover the cornea, are removed. The reshaping of the cornea with the excimer laser is then done, just as in Lasik.

Custom lens Replacement (CLR)

For some people who are not candidates for laser refractive surgery of the cornea (LASIK and PRK), often lens-based refractive surgery is available and performed by the doctors at Florida Eye Custom Vision. the most common type of this procedure is modern cataract surgery, where one’s cloudy lens is removed and replaced with an intraocular lens (IOL). This procedure can also be performed prior to cataract formation and is called refractive lens exchange (RLE). Depending on which intraocular lens (IOL) is used, RLE can be used to treat myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia.

Implantable Contact Lens

Implantable contact lenses are an appealing treatment alternative for patients who are in need of vision correction but are not candidates for laser procedures. These lenses are placed inside of the eye, rather than on the surface, producing superior vision results without the need for maintenance.
